| Frame
construction KLEPPER frames are available in three types of materials: Wood - Aluminum - Carbon Wood frame Ash and birch are the only two types of wood we use. Ash is used for all long parts of the frame like the cockpit coaming, the rods or the gunwale because of its flexibility and strength. Layers of birch are bonded together in a procedure called multiplex. All parts inside the frame (ribs, bow and stern pieces, boomerang) and the smaller wooden plates on the gunwale and on the keelboard are made of several layers of wood, glued together. All wooden parts are dip-coated in marine varnish three times, with a 24 hour drying time in between each coat. Carbon frame Carbon frames are only available with the Aerius I 490. The carbon frame is made of epoxy resin, carbon fiber fabric, fiberglass netting and aramid fiber. These components are very light and are also used in aircraft construction and racing. This provides for light and solid frames. Aluminum frame The Sprint Alu is the only KLEPPER single kayak with an aluminum frame. The weight of the boat is only 20 kg but do not underrate the payload of 150 kg. There are no double seater KLEPPER with an aluminum frame - there are no plans to produce this type of kayak. |
